Magnavox 40ME313VF turns on then back off. Power light blinks 5 times

I have a 40 inch Magnavox 40ME313V/F7 tv. When I plug it in the red led light comes on. Then when I press the power button the led will blink 5 times and power on for a few seconds, It does show the Magnavox logo then I hear a static sounding noise from the speakers, and it turns off. with the led light still on solid. When I press the power button again the led will turn off, after pressing the power button a few more time (5-6 times) it will turn back on solid. Then I can hit the power button again and the led will blink 5 times and turn on for a few seconds and show the Mganavox logo again and I hear the same sound and it turns off again. This can be repeated many times over and over.

I have looked for anything obvious on the boards such as burn spots blown caps, ect. can not see anything wrong. I disconnected the t-con board and same thing happens with the exception of the logo of course, the back lights do turn on. Below are some pictures of the boards.

Right now I am thinking it is the main board, anyone have any other ideas on with it might be?

I was having the same problem on a magnavox 50 inch but with 11 blinks my tv got hit by lightning and I have replaced both boards the iR sensor and some strips turns on shows logo the shuts off with noise from the speakers I dont know what else to do from replaceing stuff but it does turn on now as of before the new stuff it did nothing

At this point, I would think of replacing the IR Sensor. We have found that most of the time that is the cause, of your TV turning on the shuts off--Go into the back of your TV and carefully clean the IR Sensor flex cable-- and see if that will get your TV to come on---If not just replace it--Also check Power Board for bulged caps, but I don't think you will find any--

All right I just spent the better part of the day digging and searching for you and bugging people i know that know people to get this info straight from one of the lead Magnovox techs in Japan..

here is what he told me..

Although Magnavox has no error codes-5 red blinks is related to the power board-Pop is related to the Power board-

Getting to screen logo is related to Main Board, but can be caused by a voltage supply problem, to the Main Board coming from the Power Board itself-

We have been fixing 5 red blinks with a Power Board replacement-

he also said in rare cases that after the power board is replaced that the Magnavox 40ME313V/F7 A3AP1UH Main Board IC3006 EEPROM might also need to be replaced..

I hope this helps..

p.s. your model number was not in the correct format ans very difficult to locate any info at first because of this..

40me313v/f7 and then there are some variations to this with a number or letters following behind the model number..

There are no bulged caps anywhere, I will be getting back with the customer and seeing about ordering the IR Sensor.

@digitalfubar I just got the new IR Sensor board in cleaned the cables installed the new IR Sensor and still have the same results. I did look over the boards and did not see any bulged caps anywhere. Have any other ideas?

My tv will power up and show the magnavox logo on the screen then it shuts off and makes a clicking noise repidatively until you puke the plug. Any thoughts?

I had the exact same issue. It was the main board. PSB was fine, although all symptoms looked like a PSB problem

I've got the same problem with my 55 inch. Just started last night. I am not technically inclined so I cannot work on it. Looks like I'll be buying a new TV after Xmas but it won't be a magnavox
