Keyboard suddenly stopped working. Any ideas?

A couple of months ago, the keyboard on my laptop suddenly stopped responding. The first time was a key on hold that prevented me from entering my password to unlock the device. After that, it just stopped working and had to use the screen keyboard to navigate. The touch pad does not show any problem, only the keyboard is non responsive (no key seems to work).

Today I decided to look back at it, and thought about reinstalling the OS. To my surprise, the keyboard didn’t respond while booting either. I am using a USB keyboard at this point and everything seems to be normal. I’m thinking that it might be something as simple as a loose cable or just a damaged circuit. Trying to look from different perspectives before I strip it off. Any ideas?

OS: Linux, Ubuntu 18.04

Hi,

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop, taken from this webpage - IdeaPad P500 touch .

Scroll to p.33 to view the procedure to remove/replace the keyboard.

Use the procedure to inspect the keyboard cable connection to the motherboard to determine if it is OK or not.

If you need to replace the keyboard, on p106-109 you will find the part numbers for the type and country specific keyboards available for your model.

If you search online using the appropriate part number only in the search box of your browser, you’ll get results for suppliers of the part. Usually the part number is to be found on the back of the keyboard if you wish to verify that you have the correct part number
