iMac gets Power but won't turn on

Original issue: No picture over built in and external monitor.

Current issue: Won’t turn on - But holding power on button while plugging in let’s the fans run at 100%.

What led to from issue 1 to 2: According to the internet baking the gpu could fix the soldier points (eg broken ones). In my case a resistor came off and i had to solder it back on.

After putting everything together, the iMac won’t turn on. LED1 on the logic board is illuminated. Disassembled, reconnected everything and reassembled it, but the iMac still won’t turn on - other LEDs are still off and fans are not spinning.

Sorry your GPU board is gone you’ll need to replace it. The oven trick doesn’t always work as you’ve discovered.

Here’s your options:

  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB - 661-5944
  • AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB - 661-5945

Thx for your anwser!

But do you know if the logic board could be also faulty since it won’t power on anymore? The iMac worked “flawlessy” with only issue #1 - Managed to open a Youtube video without any screen and got the sound.

The problem is you can't un-crack an egg here. I would have done some additional testing before going down the path you took.

But from what you are telling me the conditions at the start and the conditions after baking your GPU is different and you had a component fall off the GPU so I surmise you over did the bake. Even if you did it correctly there was a good chance it wouldn't work.

Hence we need to fix this first. Hopefully, that solves the original problem as well.

Then i'll try tto find a cheap spare gpu - or another defect iMac 2010.

Thx for your time.
