MacBook Pro "overheats" at 60 degrees

Hi,

I have my MacBook Pro 2016 that automatically turns off giving error message every time when CPU Proximity reaches 60 degrees C. At that temp fans do not even start.

I installed Macs Fan Control app and set it up to start fans at 40 degrees and go max rpm at 50 to be able still to use my laptop, so fans are working.

Here is latest kernel panic report I just got.

Did anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas if it could be solved somehow? Or it is logic board...

Thank you in advance!

Don't see the report (PDF)

How about running diagnostics. Press and hold the D Key Did you get an error message? What was it?

Reference: Mac startup key combinations

Diagnostics shows no errors. Sorry, report i’ve posted in a separate comment (too long here)

Not good ;-{ I suspect you have a bad RAM or flash chip as it’s returning a page fault.

Lets see if we can recover the system, I would setup your system to a second mac in Target Disk Mode so you can completely wipe the drive down (flash chips) and re-install the OS to see if you can get system working again. How to use target disk mode to move files to another computer

You may want to do this in any case to recover anything important as well as wipe the drive before you bring it into Apple to see if you can get it covered under a warranty exception (or AppleCare+ coverage if you have it).

I was in apple store couple weeks ago, they only said - logic board replacement and no warranty covarage after 5 min looking at the report.

Are you sure it is RAM or flash disk? It always gets kernel panic at 60-62 degrees and reboots.

Did you follow what I stated to try to recover it using Target Disk Mode? Thats the first action to be sure.

Lets understand whats the more likely problem ...

The chips are soldered to the logic board as the system heats up the chips solder joints can break (cold solder joint) so the chip becomes disconnected as the system needs the data from the chip which it can't get to the system crashes out.

This is a failed logic board from poor inspection or bad solder/soldering.

Thats why this is in my mind a product defect and should be replaced under warranty.

As you've already gone to the Apple Store you'll need to go back and push the issue.

As long as you treated your system with TLC not banging it or scratched it up or had a liquid spill I would push for a replacement.

You will likely need to talk with the service manager and the store manager be nice but firm! You may need to talk with the regional manager and lastly send an email to Tim if all of that fails. I would also talk with your local consumer protection agency to see what they can offer and lastly talk with a lawyer!

Thank you, i will first try what you’ve suggested using Target Disk Mode.
