Replacing Logic Board with Home Button

Hey everyone!

So I have repaired iPhones since the very first one came out up until the iPhone 5. Currently I have an iPhone 6 that’s in good condition but the home button doesn’t work. I also have another iPhone 6 which the button works great but the screen/lcd is cracked and the body is in bad shape.

So to get some experience, my goal is to take out the logic board and home button from the cracked iPhone 6, and put it in the 6 with the bad button. Sure, it would be easier to swap screens, but the frame is bad on the cracked one, plus I want the practice.

After looking at the Display replacement guide and Logic Board replacement guide, I’m not sure the best route to take to do this. Will I need to change our the Home Button Cable as well?

Im hoping one of you could shine a little light on the best way to approach this.

Since you’re already at ease with repairs swapping the two logic boards won’t be too difficult if you take your time. To retain home button touch id function you will need to have the button to go with its logic board. Only the button with it’s little connector is necessary, the part behind the shield is just an extension without any ID. Be careful when you remove the button not to snap the cable, heat up the area to soften the adhesive, be gentle and you’ll be fine.
