My Samsung 10.1 won't charge

I bought a tablet for my daughter for Xmas. Brought it home to charge it and get it set up for her. I had it plugged up for an hour and when I took it off it said it was still dying?

There are several possible points of failure that could cause this, so the issue may not be with the tablet. I would check the outlet first, by plugging in another device. If the outlet is functional, check the charger by trying to charge something else, or using a different charger on the tablet.
