Can USB hub damage charging cable
Hi,
Hoping someone here can confirm whether this a thing or not.
I’ve been charging my iPhone at work using the official iPhone charging cable with a hub (Toshiba dynadock - which I use to plug my laptop in for my screens, ethernet etc).
A few weeks ago my phone stopped charging (at first would only charge a few %, then it stopped altogether).
I tried the cable at home and it had stopped working.
I replaced the cable with another we had lying around, and the phone was able to charge again!
However, since plugging it back into the dynadock, the cable has started behaving temperamentally again. I have it plugged in via the main adaptor and it will charge a little before failing and saying something like “this accessory is not supported by this device”.
Any ideas what might be happening? Is it possible that the dynadock is killing the charging cables?
I’ve had this issue about a year ago with my previous iphone and was told that it was most likely due to using unofficial (non-Apple) charging cables.
Thanks
Alex
