I'm baffled!! I get great audio when I use ear buds, but not when I use a docking station. I have 3 different docking stations so I'm pretty sure the problem is with the ipod!
Any ideas??

It is possible that your headphone jack is stuck in headphone mode...try to plug and unplug your headphones a couple of times since that may free the contacts...

Wow!! I never even thought of that, but tried plugging and unplugging multiple times and it didn't make a difference.

If your iPod charges and syncs without any problem and if you continue to get the music over your headphone, I would go ahead and replace the headphone jack. It is relative inexpensive and not a bad fix. If nothing else it gives you a great starting point. Good Luck
+ do these things have red lights and switches in them like a Mac?
they sure don't. The thing that is really nice is, they have a diagnostics menu that is very thorough

Have you checked the dock connector to make sure it is not bend or has debris, like pocket lint in it? Does it charge okay and does it sync okay?

Yes its fine...I rebooted it again and this time it appears to have fixed the problem?? Must have been a software glitch???.
