My MX500 2.5 SSD won’t accept Sierra?

I’ve ordered the MX500 2.5 Inch SSD 250GB for my MacBook Pro ‘13 Mid 2012. Upon installing it into the laptop, renaming and erasing it, I attempted to download the OS, Sierra on to it, (VIA a flashdrive). After the first time it failed mid installation. After the second time it also failed mid installation. This can’t be an issue with my hardware? Because it appears to meet the specs if I’m correct? And the only answer I could see is it being the SSD being defected. My previous failed hardrive I swaped it for was a SATA 5400 RPM, disk drive. 500gbs .

so if someone could provide me with some solutions that’d be great?

You’re hitting the classic case of either an old or bad HD SATA cable!

You need to get the better cable MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable - Apple P/N 923-0104

Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012ハードドライブケーブルの交換 Two things you also want to do is place a strip of electricians tape on the uppercase where the cable crosses over to help protect it from the rough aluminum surface. When you bend the cable to go around the corners you want a nice arch not a sharp fold! The cables thin foil wires can be damaged when you bend it to tightly.

This seems plausible but I’ve also been told/asked by the tech office at my college about how unlikely it’d be that the drive would still show up on my system and partly install an OS before ultimately failing. (On a faulty or old cable)

as most cases of a bad or old cable would either show the drive completely (allowing complete installation) or not at all?

also update on the issue is that after trying to install Yosemite now, it failed saying a specific package could not be transferred.

I can’t start up the drive in recovery mode either for some reason to attempt to download an OS off of an Apple server. Whenever i select my network, it fails. And will not boot recovery mode.

Would you still recommend purchasing the new cable? As I’m trying to try any solution that doesn’t require spending more money first.

What can I say I've replaced 100's of these cables! I do it as a matter of course whenever I upgrade a HDD to a SSD in any of the MacBook Pro 2011 - 2012 models.

For over five years I supported an engineering company who used MacBook Pro's in the field over 600 systems. When we first upgraded to SSHD drives we don't see the problem, it was only after upgrading to SSD's we starting seeing this issue.

If you take a look through the answers here you'll see quite a few who had the same exact issue you are encountering and some also fought tooth and nail not believing! Until others reported it was the solution. Here's a good dialog with Diego who wouldn't accept the answer yet Lola finally replaced the cable and low in behold! It worked!
