Can I replace my iPhone 5s motherboard for an iPhone SE one?

Hi, I have an Iphone 5s 16Go that I’ve put in a fully custom housing(Mate Black with golden apple logo and golden buttons/sim tray) and I was wondering, I watch a bit on the internet, comparing iphone 5s Motherboard with iphone SE motherboard and it seams like all the connections are the same and at the exact same place, seams like all the screws are at the same palace and I have a Stock iphone SE(Not custom) 64Go so I was wondering, do you think it would fit in it? I don’t mind cutting a bit the interior of the housing if nescessary and also, me custom housing seams to have more space under the motherboard. I’ve seen a post on your website saying that iphone se motherboard are slightly bigger and because of it couldn’t fit in the 5s housing, where is it bigger exactly?

in short, what would not let me put my iphone se motherboard in my iphone 5s custom case? is there any option to make it fit?

The following is from first hand experience. I currently have the guts of an iPhone SE in a custom blue 5s housing with silver buttons and sim tray.

You won’t get away with swapping just the motherboard alone. At the very least, I believe the battery, camera, the volume/power/flash flex cable and the headphone/microphone/lightning flex cable are different, so those will have to follow the motherboard. The top antenna appears to be identical, but don’t be surprised if you need to swap it too.

Housings are identical except for one small detail in the corner around the rear camera. The power/volume/flash flex has an extra branch on the SE that wraps around the camera. The SE housing has a recess cut in the corner to accommodate this. Also, the SE has a rubber pad between the camera and housing which has a bit of a tab that extends into the recess, covering this flex from the camera.

You can put the SE top flex into a 5s housing, but there will be a bit of excess length for the available space. You can work this extra loop around to just behind the power button and away from the Camera, and either install the rubber pad a little out of place or just omit it altogether. Kinking this extra wrinkle may damage it, but I don’t know what functionality this would affect (might be NFC).

Alternately, if you have the means to cut the appropriate recess into your 5s housing, then everything can go together as intended. Screw locations are absolutely identical and the motherboard fits in the housing, no problem.

I should add, the pictures I’ve seen for the top flex as a replacement part appear to be missing this extra branch going from the power switch around the camera. I don’t know whether they all mistakenly just used a 5s image, or if the branch is really missing on the replacement, and if so, whether the replacement might actually be the 5s part. The branch appears to have a small inductor on it, and I would guess serves the same purpose as the short flex cable that goes around the headphone jack, whatever that may be.

The bottom flex cable appears almost identical, but differs in two respects; the attached antenna cable is shorter on the SE, and more importantly, the gender of the connector for the motherboard is different, so you can’t plug the incorrect cable into the motherboard.

@uclink4 - You should consider filming the conversion and uploading it to youtube. If a reverse conversion is actually possible... it would get a ton of views(!)

No you cannot considering that the iphone 5s uses an a7 chip processor while the SE uses an a9 chip processor. With upgraded parts on the 5s, the whole phone internals will need to be updated too (battery, etc). It would also be cheaper and safer to buy a board made for the 5s, not the SE.

But i don’t really care about the cost of all this, I already have Both Iphone 5S and Iphone SE Phones fully working, I just kind of want to “merge them togetter” so i would get the cool aspect of my iphone 5s with his cusom housing but the power and storage of my iphone SE, if i take the logic board and the battery of the iphone SE, would that work?

I suppose you can try but the screw patterns are completely different so you would need to drill very small holes into the logic board. The logic board for the SE is slightly bigger, and uses different FPC connectors so in my knowledge, this just wont be possible. If you did want to upgrade however, you can probably upgrade the camera from 8mp 5s to 12mp SE

The motherboard will not fit the housing of the 5s, you would need to create additional space somehow.

Thanks you all, i think i am just going to keep those lile they are, it's kind of a bummer that their is nearly ZERO Custom Housing for the iphone SE only oem and somes custom ones that are the exact same as the oem one but without the apple logo :(
