Mac mini Model A1176 Repair (Early 2006 - Mid 2007)

1.5 Core Solo, 1.66 or 1.83 Core Duo, or 1.83 or 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. This covers the first Intel-based Mac Mini models from Early 2006 to Mid 2007.

Hi, I have an old Mac mini Core Duo 1.6mhz with a zombie problem.

I would guess, it's not dead, but either a life.

If you just plug the power supply, after 3 seconds, the fan starts like crazy. There are no lights on, no video and you can't turn off the machine. The only option it's to remove the power cable to turn it off.

The problems happen with the hard drive sensor cable plugged or not puggled into the motherboard.

I also tried resetting the SMC manager in many ways. Like, taking apart the machine and removing the clock battery.

I would also try a PRAM reset if you haven't by holding down command-option-p-r on the keyboard and then pressing the power button. This occasionally works to fix issues such as this one.

As @alecm said, try a PRAM reset.

Try pulling the RAM out and plugging it back in to see if it gives you the beeps that it recognizes that the RAM isn’t there. Do you get any kind of POST chime? If not and you have reset the SMC which it seems you have, disconnect the HDD and Optical drive from the logic board and see if it keeps doing it, my hunch is that it is a good chance that it is the logic board. If there is a local Apple shop around I would take it there because an Apple Store won’t touch it because they consider it obsolete.
