Sound drops out and my mic constantly echoes and gives bad feedback.

For a while now, whenever I use my mic on my Xbox Elite the sound in game occasionally goes quiet, almost like it’s underwater, and quieter sounds disappear completely. This is usually fixed by readjusting the male 3.5mm jack. However, when I am in a party my microphone echoes a lot and gives off this terrible white noise, even though my feedback setting is set to zero. It can’t be the mic, because the sound works fine on my phone and laptop. I don’t believe the female 3.5mm is damaged because I have had it for 2 months and it has never left my desk, never fallen (at least not seriously, it fell into my lap once because I accidentally snagged the cord).
