Washer won’t advance past wash cycle

Kenmore Series 500 topload Washer

Washer will not advance past the wash cycle. Will not go through the rinse and spin cycles. It does drain. When it stops at the wash cycle, we then try to set it to rinse and spin and the rinse and spin setting doesn’t work. Turning it to the drain and spin is just fine, it just seems to be a problem with the rinse cycle.

And, actually, there are times that it will complete a full cycle, it isn’t often, but on occasion it’s does a complete cycle by itself.

Everything else works on my washing machine is just will not wash it will spin on the drain and rinse cycle it will rinse and drain on the rinse and drain cycle but it will not fill with water agitate it always stops on the wash cycle and will not Advance no matter what cycle I put it on I've tried every cycle on my machine and none of them work on the wash cycle, when it gets to the wash setting it just stops! the wash light comes on and it doesn't go past it?

My washer is doing the same thing and it was delivered yesterday!

Yes....mine continues to run even when cycle is done. Very annoying and it has to be unplugged when done or it will run all day until unplugged. Horrible machine!

It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. ... Under the hole is a switch that allows the timer to advance and the washer to spin only when the lid is down.

I was told by the sears online chat that my washer does not have a timer, but rather just a control panel, that is a $300 fix .

What are your thoughts about a kid switch issue?

さんによる

Well, you could give us your model number. In case you might not have recognized it as a timer, here's how to replace it:

The timer issue is for models previous to 2012.. The 500 series I believe is a 2016 model VMW type washer.. here is a link where you can check for error codes and go to the Sears website and check for their error codes for VMW washers and under the code explanation it would give you a part name that could fix your problem and would even give you a link to do it your self repair. Hopefully this works.

My washer is a Kenmore 100 series and it stops at the wash cycle. It will fill and then drain during the sensing cycle. When it moves on to wash it just stops. Rinse/spin cycle works and lid is locked. Drain/spin cycle worksheet. I tried soak once and it worked but not then after. This is a fairly new washer. I’ve tried resetting it and it’s not working. Water is coming in and out but it seems it doesn’t like the whole wash cycle. Any advice?!?

Same issue with our Kenmore 100 HE series model. So frustrating. We just switched out the lid lock assembly this morning. No change. Running a load now for the second time. Going to stand here and try to manually hold the lid switch on ‘lock’ so I can watch what happens. Stay tuned…..

So… for the first time in a week, it is currently ‘washing’. Normal agitation. (the washer, not me.) Thinking that because I held the lock lid button for so long and filled it higher than usual, the agitator can easily move the clothes around—not working so hard. We have 4 teenagers who do their own laundry—3-4 loads daily sometimes. And I’m sure they’re stuffing it full despite being shown how to do it properly. Maybe after 4 years of that, a belt is going but is not quite shot yet. I really don’t know. But clothes are being washed at this moment. Small victory.

We changed out the outlet and it works fine and has been now for months. Try putting a new GFCI outlet in.

Thank you Edward G. This fixed my washer and I didn't have to disassemble my washing machine. Better to try the simple fixes first. Glad I read this page until the bottom.

さんによる

@edwardag123 or @chrisp30992 what made you change the outlet? What's the reasoning behind it? A GFCI would have to be reset if it detects a fault. Did you reset it when you had problems with the washing machine?
