How to use my iMac 27" 2010 model as an external monitor with PC?

Plan to use my old 2010 iMac 27” as an external monitor and connect it with my windows’s desktop PC. However, have a hard time finding the video cable in the market. My PC has HDMI/DVI/DISPLAY ports on video card, and there is only mini display/thunderbolt port on iMac 27”, there are lots of mini Display port to HDMI/DVI/DISPLAY in the market, but not on the opposite way, anyone knows any option how to setup this?

Thanks,

Tom

I believe this guide might help you out here. You can use the adapter below so you can use the HDMI port on your PC and the Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port.

The only issue doing this is the iMac needs to be fully working.

@danj Yes, true! The iMac needs an OS in order to do this, you can't just have the iMac without an OS to do this.

Well, I don't think that cable will work, as it is mini display to HDMI, the cable I need is the opposite way, HDMI to mini Display. From the article on that link, it seemed that only PC with mini display output can do this, otherwise, there is no way to get it connected. Let me know if I am wrong, but thanks for your reply anyway.

@hru1207 You can do this with Thunderbolt too. I have done this with an old iMac I had trash picked a few years ago and I used that type of adapter for my newer backup PC that had HDMI.

I will try that adaptor and see if it works on my situation, will keep you posted. Thanks a lot, Aaron!
