My laptop's keyboard is stopped working

Hi, this morning I accidentally spilled my pill on my computer. I immediately cleaned it. After half hour later the letter y and backspace stopped working. I cleaned the keyboard and it didn't work out. I closed the laptop started all over again but this time nothing was working. I couldn't type. Enter, space and some buttons were working. I closed and opened but nothing . Then suddenly the laptop shut down by itself. I couldn't open. After the three hours later I opened but the lights on the button weren't working. Lights are okay now but all the letters expect letters starting with z don't work. ZXCVBNM is okay now. So how can i correct this and why laptop shut down suddenly like that

Chosen Solution

I suggest you immediately unplug it and take out the battery. Any current flowing through liquid spillage is likely to cause corrosion and possibly irreversible damage. Then remove the keyboard. You don’t say what model Ideapad it is but it’s fairly simple for most laptops. You should be able to find a disassembly guide or video online. Mop up any further spillage you can see.

If it looks like the spillage has penetrated any further then further disassembly will be required, but don’t worry, it isn’t hard. First of all, mop it up, and as soon as you can get some, clean up any residue with isopropyl alcohol.

It sounds like you’ll probably need a new keyboard. Often these are relatively inexpensive on eBay. Just make sure you get one for your precise model, and the right language option. But flushing your existing one with isopropyl alcohol then leaving to dry for an extended period may do the trick.

Meanwhile, if you need your data, get a SATA to USB adapter (quite cheap on eBay), which will allow you to plug your hard drive into another computer.

Good luck!
