Why is the screen magnetic?

The screen on my friends s7 has turned into a magnet, giving off a magnetic pull, that if you put any magnetic material nxt to it you can feel the magnetic force between the phones screen and the object, have never seen or heard of this before, so was wondering what it is?

I find this ironic because magnets and screens don't mix, so this baffles me as to how your phone still functions.

@ajcooke01 "because magnets and screens don't mix" why not? LED and AMOLED do not get interupted by magnets. Read a bit about this on here https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/jo... and http://www.nicadd.niu.edu/research/extru... as well as multiple other studies.

@zeigal

there is really nothing that could turn the AMOLED (LED screens in general) into a magnet. It would be interesting to find out what it is that you feel. May be you can give us a better description. If nothing else, use a thin sheet of paper and lay it over teh screen. The sprinle some metal filings over it and see if it does show an alignment of the filings showing the magnetic field. Let us know if this phone is still charging and if your friend is using the wireless charging

@oldturkey03 - Is it possible the display's base plate is steel which would be attracted by a magnet and/or it could have been magnetized. It might be this is a replacement screen Vs the original which is why the other phone is reacting differently.

I agree there wouldn't be a technical reason for the display to be magnetized.

Last Samsung AMOLED I had used a non-ferrous backplate.....
