MacBook Air freezes and shuts off even when idle. OS reinstalled!
Hi guys,
My MacBook Air mid 2013 started freezing and shutting off. I rebooted, reset all SMC, PRV… nothing worked. I then erased everything and reinstalled the original OS (Snow Leopard). It didn’t help.
I then removed the battery and connect it only in energy. This worked and I assumed the battery was too old and I installed a brand new one. To my surprise, now with the new battery and new OS (upgraded to high sierra) it keeps freezing and shutting down.
It shuts down a few minutes after I start the computer - 5minutes. Sometimes it keeps going longer but sometimes it shuts off even 3 minutes after turning on and being idle… nothing running at all.
I installed iStats Menu to monitor temperatures and it seems like the computer is overheating. I get 60 c/140 f sometimes when it is idle. When I replaced the battery I also cleaned the fan and to my surprise the inside of my Mac Air that had never been opened in 5 years was extremely clean, except for a little bit of dust inside of the fan.
Do you guys have any ideas what could be wrong with my computer?
Thanks a lot!
