Is reset normal with bad battery?

Works fine when plugged into power. Disconnect from power, and it shuts off. Reapply power, and it comes to the language selection screen. Is this reset normal with a bad battery, or does it indicate a different problem?

mgb2, Yes it would be normal. Happens to my iPods with a dead battery all the time. Remember that when you unplug it, it has absolutely no power and can not retain any information. When you plug it in it starts as if its never been setup before. Of course that does not preclude any other damage, but I start with the battery for sure. Good Luck.
