TV has sound but no picture. Backlight works. Vertical banding.

Block Image

Samsung UN55KS8000FXZA TV was working fine while playing videogames. Screen instantly went to vertical lines. No discernable picture. Sound works. Backlight works. Took apart TV and checked ribbon cables. Cleaned and tried wiggling and tapping all connections and cables.

While the TV was powered, these measures made no difference. Even with all inputs disconnected, the picture is just vertical lines. They shift and move while pushing buttons to navigate menus. I suspect the main board is the problem. Model BN94-10961N main board. Inspected power board for faults. All capacitors look good. Power is getting to main board. TV is only a year old, but just out of warranty. Way to go Samsung!

Pcb for the screen failed on mine. Had to replace tv.

さんによる

Did you figure it out because that is exactly dead on what mine looks like and would love to have a possible fix

さんによる

It was determined to be a bad pcb on the screen. It isn't replaceable without replacing the whole panel. I bought an LG TV to replace it. It was my 2nd Samsung failure in 4 years. They're losing my confidence in the brand with the sub par electronics. The hardware seems great. But I've been plagued with premature failures with their products. Phones and tvs.

Dang i was really hoping it would be the board and yea ive heard alot of bad things about there tvs anymore

Hi,

My tv (UN55KS8000FXZC) has the same exact problem. Like you, my screen suddenly turned black with colored vertical lines in the middle. I’m now stuck with that! Can’t do anything about it! Very disappointed by Samsung quality department (do they have one?) anyway, did you manage to resolve your problem? If yes, can you tell what was the problem and how you proceeded to resolve it. I’m very interested!

Thank you very much!

R043 and R044 are 51R0 surface mount resistors, size 1206, 51 ohms. They are on the address boards to the left, their sister resister R02-043 and R2-044 are on address board 4 to the right. They probably all need to be replaced. On my TV 043, a 51 ohms resistor was testing at 8.5k and r02-043 was testing at 1k. O44 and 2-044 were both testing correctly at 51 ohms but when the TV was working they were burning hot.

hi, I am not familiar with this type of repair but I can confirm that my R043 and R044 are both looking pretty bad (on both sides).

I'm going to buy the following:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD8...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S61...

and use YouTube to guide me.

Thanks for your reply, it helped me get the right parts.

Attempted a fix; each time I tried to turn on power, the resistors would smoke up. Now I've managed to rip a few contacts so I'm not able to easily try new resistors. I've given up on trying to fix this myself but am going to buy the address boards I need. Do you happen to have any knowledge of what they are called exactly and what part numbers they might be? I'm trying to speak to Samsung Parts' people.

さんによる

You were using resistors at a lower ohm then original Samsung factory installed resistors. That why the were getting hot and smoking. Factory resistors are 22ohm. People that have been using 100ohm resistors have been pretty successful.

さんによる

This was a Samsung engineering design flaw problem. I have the same on my UN55KS8000FXZA. At max brightness and contrast settings, voltage fluctuation-limiting diode arrays at left and right lower corner boars fail, resulting in resistors r43, r44 overheating and burning out. Both sets of resistors must be replaced and both sets of diodes must be removed. TV will work again. There were various versions of this pcb, some with 20 ohm resistors, some with 51 ohm ones. The general advice is that values from 20 to 51 ohms can be used. Form factor is 1206. Originals likely 1/4 watt capacity. Try to find a 1/2 watt the same size, if can. There are videos at YouTube showing how.

jeremyventurino  I would agree that this could be a main board issue, since you already checked the power board voltages etc. to the main board. Start with that and see what you get. Pther possibilities include a bad T-con board and worst case scenario would be a bad panel

I manage somehow to almost repair the panel, only two small vertical lines (one pixel wide) are visible.

Remove the back plastic cover, then remove speakers, remove bottom long metal plate. Then you see panel cirquit 4 blocks.

Turn on tv and touch with finger outer blocks (block 1 and 4) resistors if you burn you finger then the fault is found :) . Unsolder hot resistor on block 1 and 4, turn on tv now the picture should be ok some stripes maybe.

There are some diode arrays thats are fused, the resistors powering it.

Can't manage what the purpose of diode arrays.

Try this only if next step is to trash it.

TV is UE55KS8002 year 2016

Update (07/15/2019)

Hi,

If you open it up, send pictures, then i can tray to guide. I forgot to make pictures .

This help to remove back cover. Instruction is for ks8500 but ks8000 is same.

Update (07/15/2019)

Hi,

This stripes are not solid black, they change color.

Upper left dark haze is not display fault, but Netflix info menu background :)

I really hoping is that, my is 1 year in the garage i gonna try it your advice and see if can back to life, thanks to you

Thank you so much in advance

I am having the same issue i followed your instructions for desoldering 1 resistor on each side, lines are still there ,but before i did that my tv was glitching on and off with no picture but sound, which was also glitching , i disconnected the ribbon cable going to R043 R044 and sceen stayed lit no picture but continuous sound and when i removed resistors now its displaying colored vertical line s do you think this could also be my control board BN94-10961N or a bad panel.

i had this very same problem on my KS9500R, and these 4 resistors (R043/R044/R02-043 and R2-044 ) 51R0 / 51 ohms each were the problem, two of them were shorted and the other 2 were testing at 2.2KOhms and 3.5Kohms.

Well i tried changing the resistors but they burnt out again on first power up so i decided to remove them and try again and to my surprise the TV was alive and fine again, no stripes no bad pixels nothing, new like it was before.

Actually i am posting now using the fixed TV, and about the resistors, if someone doesn’t have soldering tools or skills, each pair of resistors are connected in series by a small pcb trace in between the 2 resistors, all you need to do is take a pointed and sharp blade and cut the trace connecting them and you’re done, leaving the bad resistors on the board without the hassle of desoldering them, just disabling them and hopefully fixing your TV.

by the way i wad told by Samsung that i need a new LCD Panel that costs 1000$ +… way to go Samsung.

Did you remove both resistors (R043 +R044)?

When you changed the resistors did you use 250mW 51R0 SMD1206 or 500mW?

hello, there was another fix that made my tv work perfectly, there are 8 small components that gets so hot and they are the reason those resistors are being damaged, you need to remove the 8 small chips from the pcb (4 on each side) then replace the 4 resistors (2 on each side) if they are damaged, i will link to the video with the correct fix, pls read in the comments for details, good luck.

さんによる

but u dont replace the 8 small components, right? and where can u buy this kind of resistors¿? thanks a lot.

さんによる

These are diode array chips. The chips are short-circuited and draw down the supply voltage thru this 4 resistors. Can’t find replacement.
