After Battery replacement no change in phone

I've got a 3GS running 4.3.1 and it's 14 months old. About a week ago the battery started to die real fast so I installed a new battery and was very hopefull that would do the trick but it didnt. The battery still drains fast. So I decided to restore the Iphone to original manufacturer settings and not install any apps. I turned off all push notifications. No email added.

Just sitting idle it will go from 100% to 80% in a matter of minutes.

The phone is always warm, and doesnt take long to charge back up.

I would like to add that just before all this happend I plugged the phone into a carcharger that was plugged into a home adapter. Would this have fried something in my Iphone.

it's possible.. i'd go and check that the gold prongs on the antenna (connection7) are on properly and making contact with the metal bezel. one of the causes of battery drain is the antenna using all the energy to maintain connection. see if that helps and get back to us.

Checked the gold prongs and they are nicely making contact with the metal bezel. no change in the battery drain. Is it possible the new battery could be a dud?

Batteries do deteriorate sitting on the shelf... But this is the same problem as the old battery so I think the problem is elsewhere. As the connectors are ok I would swap the dock connector which has the antenna on it. As the phone charges I don't think your charger has damaged the board.. It wouldve blown a fuse perhaps and then you'd have no charging! Docks can be found pretty cheaply, if you don't want to buy something you're not sure will fix the problem you can always ask a friend if they'll let you swap boards

i agree mayer, but I think there is a drain on the battery somewhere. it goes from full to 80% in 10 minutes? usually this is a reception/antenna problem.. and as they are on the dock and we have had a problem with the charger it is possible this is the cause of all the battery drain.

Tanya, I am by no means an iPhone guru like pollytintop, who is really excellent at getting those beasts under control. Here is my take on your current situation, and I may be way off. If changing the Battery and Dock Connector won't work to get your phone to charge, I believe that the issue is caused when a fuse on the logic board is burnt out. I do know that there is a specific fuse for the charging circuit To change it you will have to have some soldering skills. Good Luck.
