Why isn't my speaker connecting after I brought it near a laptop?

I was listening to music via my speaker while looking for something to make for lunch, and all of a sudden, the audio becomes distorted and then the whole thing stops working. The light is still flashing blue, but my device wont connect (I'm using a Kindle Fire 8). The speaker option still shows up in my Bluetooth settings, but if I try to connect, it just says 'Connecting' and then it stops. Any ideas on what might be happening? Thanks.
