3GS battery replaced, but now wi-fi, gsm, BT, speaker don't work

I followed all the steps in the ifixit manual for replacing the battery on my 3GS which was working perfectly well except for the poor battery life.

After powering it on I found out that the speaker stopped working, along with the GSM reception, wi-fi, and probably bluetooth too.

All cable connections look and feel connected. Now what? Trash?

These are all contained (mostly) on the dock connector. So you need to check the connector no.4 is on properly. If you are happy it is ok, then you may have damaged the dock itself during your battery swap.

I have never been able to get my bluetooth to work..even from new so I can't comment on that, but wifi is generally run from connector 6..

thanks brad for correcting my typo.. get the no. wrong every time... :-)

To correct a Typo, WiFi is connector 6.

every time.. I get it wrong every time. you'd think i'd remember by now, thanks brad

I will try cleaning everything up and see if results change.

The weird thing is I mostly didn't touch the dock connector except for unplugging and then plugging back connector 4 and the other round connector on the other side. I think the only choice I have is to order a new dock.

My replacement dock connector has arrived. I will work on it and post results.

Unfortunately, I just replaced the battery on my iPhone 3GS with a new one from ipodbatterydepot, and I now do not have any sound from my speaker (the one used by ear during calls when the phone is against my head). I can only hear other parties when I used the speaker phone (sound from the bottom) or headset option. I have switched back to the original battery, but the results are still the same.

Please post a solution. Thanks.

Did you check the connector and that the flap was pushed down? It's the ribbon cable for the proximity sensor and earpiece.

さんによる

Garry, please be more specific as I am a novice with iPhone repairs. Which connector (1,2,3,4,etc) are you referencing and exactly what should I do with the flap. Thanks for the response and your help.

さんによる

That would be number 3. If the flap is down, perhaps the ribbon is damaged in some way. Or the connector on the board is damaged when removing the front panel. Hope this helps!

Thank you, Garry. After replacing the battery on my iPhone 3GS, there was no sound from the earpiece speaker (although the speakerphone worked perfectly). I opened my iPhone again and found the cable for connector #3 was not connected so I reconnected it.

Everything now works fine!
