Message and Ring Malfunction

My phone settings have been working well for years now with a recorded a personal message, set to 6 rings. Recently a problem in receiving messages developed and the caller is cut off at 4 rings and gets the following message: "this mailbox has not been set up by the subscriber". I checked all the settings again and made sure that the answering is turned on on the base where I can listen to my recorded message.
