Touch Issues after screen replacement discussion

I have been fixing phones as a side business for around 6 years now, starting with the iPhone 4. I have used a wide variety of replacement parts from multiple vendors to try and streamline the order and repair process of the business. Ive used both aftermarket and original screens (refurbished with original lcd) based on what the budget was for the customer. With everything, there are issues with parts from time to time and sometimes in batches. The main reason for the question/discussion is that I have a very high failure rate with 7 and 7 plus replacement parts. I hardly ever have any issues with the original screens. I will have at least a 10% failure rate. I have tried multiple vendors from iFixit to Mobile Defenders and have the same problems. Does anyone else seem to have a higher than normal failure rate with the 7 and 7 plus? I feel like at this point it's a manufacturing issue, but I never go a full month without having at least 1 bad 7/7 plus have touch issues. I have used aftermarket parts before on other iPhone models with little issues. The 7 and 7 plus models are excessive enough to where Im about to stop offering a cheaper alternative and just use original.

Are these issues that where you replace the screen a week or two later they come back with no touch at all?

You need to be careful with how the touch cable is seated and aligned.

Yes or with touch issues like ghost touching. Im pretty meticulous when repairing phones. Is there anything specific I need to look for? I make sure the cables bend properly into the frame.

Here's a good video. I havent thought about this.

Ghost touching, I've actually never gotten that before on the 7 models.

Ghost touching is either caused by cheap quality screens or when a screen is installed on a frame that has dents going inwards on the corners making the screen not sit on properly.

When a screen is squished onto housing that isn't flat enough, it flexes / bends causing the ghost touch issue.

Im pretty much past the quality of the part being the issue since I've tried 6 different vendors with varying qualities. They've all exhibited the same issues from time to time. Do you use only original screens? If not, who do you order from, if you dont mind me asking. I think the video I shared may have something to it. Im going to try this method going forward and see if I have better luck. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to fork out the extra 40 bucks that an original quality screen costs.

I tend to order Original/Premium quality screens and I mostly focus on micro-soldering so I have't noticed this issue with aftermarket but I'm curious to see what others have seen. I'll page @benjamen50 and @gedo1992 and @joshw to see if they have any comments as they do lot's of screen replacements. Otherwise, you may want to consider joining the iFixit Pro Talk Forum where shop owners gather to discuss these types of issues.

There are also some really good groups on Facebook or the /mobilerepair on Reddit.

I had this same issue. When I have this problem a quick reboot of the phone by holding the power and volume down button should fix the issue. If the problem continues again then the screen is actually bad. I find that I only see the problem once and then it doesn't happen again.

Rebooting works for me too and sometimes that fixes the issue permanently. At this point, I would think the manufacturers would have the aftermarket production down to a science. I rarely have any issues with the 5 and 6 series devices.

Crap, I didn't think of this before. I already basically left a few screens that came back with no touch sitting in the draw. I'm going to try this out later when I have a phone to test it on.

This is when it does the no touch right?

さんによる

Correct Ben. Whenever I fix an iPhone 7 or 7 plus I always show them how to reboot their phone and tell them that if it happens once then it's ok. If it continues to happen after that then they can bring it back for warranty
