Please help. I have a WF7710

Please help. I have a WF7710 and want to use CISS . I haven't installed these yet. I did update the firmware not knowing I should not have. Can you tell me if this firmware will prevent me from installing 3rd party cartridges.

Thanks

Hi,

It may be quicker to get the definitive information you need, for your model printer, direct from a CISS supplier.

Not really a good solution.

I don't have CISS but my WF7710 started to have issues after a recent firmware update. I successfully downgraded to older firmware as follows (I have a Mac but I think these steps would be almost the same on a PC):

1. Download older Epson firmware updater software for the WF7710.

2. With the 7110 powered off, hold down the buttons 4, 7, and Job/Status buttons at the same time while pressing the power button. This will power up into recovery mode.

3. Connect the WF7710 to your PC/Mac with a USB cable (if not already connected via USB).

4. Run the firmware updater software.

5. Wait several for the update to finish, you should see "Completed" or "Finished" on the WF7710 screen (the firmware updater software said the WF7710 would power off when done but this didn't happen).

6. Unplug the WF7710 power cable, wait a bit, reconnect it and power on.

Note that this didn't remove or change any custom presets or configurations I already had set up in the WF7710 but I wouldn't rely on that always being the case.

A better solution (WF-7710 CISS cartridge) - this worked for me:

Thanks to i.konstantinidis33 for the key combination for getting inside the recovery mode (power+status+4+7).

Notes: the whole process was done with CISS module already inside printer !very important! make sure that the CISS module clicks firmly into place - after firmware downgrade the printer still didn't recognize CISS module, but it wasn't firmly attached - apply some pressure to click.

1. Download Recovery Mode Firmware version FA27HC from epson site:

https://epson.com/Support/Printers/All-I...

2. Connect the printer to the PC only via USB cable.

3. Power off printer.

4. Enter recovery mode.

5. Open Recovery Mode Firmware version FA27HC from PC.

6. Press Start to "upgrade" / basically to downgrade firmware.

7. When new firmware will be successfully installed you will see all the buttons flashing.

8. Plug off printer from power then plug back in.

9. Power-on printer normally.

Done!

I paid 22 euros to have it downgrade with wic reset and it didn't work even tho it said succesfull … I found a way to do it manually .. turn printer off and after 1 minute press status + 4 + 7 + power buttons all together and don't let them go until you see white text screen. This will bring up recovery mode, connect printer to pc with usb and run Epson utility with older firmware and it will send it to printer. DO NOT TURN PRINTER OFF. when successfully installed you will see the never version of firmware installed and all buttons will start flashing. Unplug and plug printer. I got mine downgraded like that but still CISS wont reckotnize all cartridges, propably faulty CISS %#*@ Chinese manufacturers…. If I am doing something wrong and I am missing something let me know ..

Note: it worked for a while, then the printer wouldn't recognize CISS after a printer restart.

Edit: I removed and reattached the CISS cartridge into place, seems to be working for now. I think it has more to do with the CISS cartridge itself rather than anything else...

Later Edit:

I am encountering the following issue: after each power off/power on // restart, the printer doesn't recognize the cartridges - the fix is this: slightly unclicking/clicking the cartridges back into place. It's not a long term fix, but it works. Don't know how to bypass this cartridge check that the printer is making on every power-up...

I know this is an old post but it was helpful to me, and I want to add some details about what I did…

I don't have CISS but my WF7710 started to have issues after a recent firmware update (wouldn't auto-power off, frequent 10016 errors when scanning).

I wanted to downgrade to older firmware hopefully to fix these issues, but the older Epson firmware update software refused to work, saying I already had newer firmware.

But after more research, I successfully downgraded to older firmware as follows. Note that I have a Mac but I think these steps would be almost the same on Windows:

1. Download older Epson firmware updater software for the WF7710. I found it on one of Epson's support sites.

2. With the WF7110 powered off, hold down the buttons 4, 7, and Job/Status at the same time while pressing the power button. This will power up the WF7710 into recovery mode.

3. Connect the WF7710 to your computer with a USB cable (if not already connected).

4. Run the Epson firmware updater software as normal (since the WF7710 is in recovery mode, the updater won’t complain about newer firmware already being installed).

5. Wait several minutes for the update to finish. When done the screen of the WF7710 should say "Completed" or "Finished" etc. (the firmware updater software said the WF7710 would power off when done but this didn't happen).

6. Unplug the WF7710 power cable, wait a few seconds, connect it again and power it on.

Note that this didn't remove or change any presets etc. I already had set up on the WF7710. But I wouldn't rely on that always being the case with every update.
