97 Firebird fuel pump relayfuel pump not "on"

i have a 97 Pontiac Firebird base coupe. The other night out of nowhere, the car wouldn't start. New battery, 1/2 tank of gas, everything else good. A mechanic looked at it & found that fuel isn't getting to the engine & suspect the fuel pump relay. It seems too easy that this could be nothing more than a fuse & the whole time I'm pulling my hair out! What would cause the fuel pump to shut off & how do I "turn it back on"? This car is my baby & I desperately need to get it running. In addition, my kids have multiple health issues, so I really need my car! Thanks!

Hi @blackandburned ,

Did the mechanic try a replacement relay to check that the relay was not the problem?

If not, here is an image showing the location of the fuel pump relay

Try temporarily replacing the relay with the same type (check info on relay) from the fuse block (select one that seems non-essential to the operation of the engine but not air bag relay though) to see if the car at least starts, to prove whether the relay is the problem or not.

If it still doesn't turn on then there may be a problem with the fuel pump itself, the wiring to the fuel pump, the PCM (powertrain control module) or the wiring from the PCM to the relay.

The PCM operates the relay which operates the pump.

An auto electrician is probably the best place to go, to locate where the problem lies.
