Why doesn't my phone read the sim card and my phone has only one sim card holder

If this is a new problem then it could be one of two things . Your sim card has been damaged some how or part of the phones main board has failed.
If this is a new phone then it is most likely to be that the phone is locked to a different provider than your sim card, The store you bought the phone from should be able to help although they may charge you for this.

Mine started after it was submerged in water already had screen fixed it went black
