Copper dot on Power Button?

I was having issues with the power button working on an iPhone 5 so I purchased both the cable and button replacements from ifixit. I see that my original button has a copper piece in the circle indentation while the new one does not. Does the copper piece have any function? Why does the replacement part leave it off? Nothing else looks to be wrong with my power button, but I wanted to understand this before replacing it or replacing the associated cables.

Thank you,

Karl Schneider

Is the copper piece missing entirely or is it replaced with a silver/metallic piece instead. Do you mean this part?

The button has a metallic nipple underneath, that presses against the actuator on the button flex. The "click" signal is passed along to the logic board via the two copper pads on the flex.

Minho,

Thank you for the response.

So I am referring to the power and lock button, not the home button. Mine has copper on the bottom at the place where it contacts the cable. The replacement part does not (see photos from the link below).:

Thank you,

Oh my, I guess I didn't read your question properly...at all ;>).

Yes, you need the copper piece that fits inside the dimple. That is what will actually make contact with the actuator on the flex. I don't understand why vendors sell them without it.

Minho,

Thank you so much for the answer! If you look at the photo, the replacement part from ifixit does not have the copper piece (linked here: iPhone 5 Power and Lock Button). The part I received looks just like the photo with no copper piece. Is there a process to move it or is the replacement part without copper unusable?

You need the copper dot as that is what makes contact with the actuator. You could try to transfer it but I suspect it will not be easy to do. This one here has it pre-installed.

To be honest, why are you changing the physical button? If there is any issue, it is more likely with the flex.

Minho,

Thank you for your help! I contacted ifixit customer service and they indicated that the photo on the website is incorrect. The replacement power buttons they have in inventory all have the dot on them. They are sending me another one.

It threw me off when the website photo matched what I had received. Thanks to your help, I will receive the correct part and reassemble everything.
