Vibrator Switch Removal and Install

I have an iPhone 3GS and I'm replacing the headphone jack/vibrator switch/power button flex cable. I noticed that the vibrator switch is connected to a small metal housing by 2 prongs besides the double stick tape. The prongs are mushroomed as if they were intentionally flatened at the tips. It looks like a mushroom or like a rivet. First, how do I remove it? Cut the tip, pry it out, or use heat?

Then when I install the vibrator switch on the flex cable to the metal housing, how should I flaten the tip if it is necessary? I searched for a video or pictures to no avail.

The part is on the following link. The switch is at the bottom left

The housing with the switch attached is on the link below. above the orange #6 sticker is the metal part and you can clearly see the prongs that look like they were flatened like a rivet.

can you post a picture of the original part? and a link to what you have purchased? I think this question has cropped up before... you may have bought a part which isn't fully assembled..

Thanks for the help. The new flex which has the vibrator switch on it does have the 2 prongs. Once I insert it through the metal housing, how do I flatten the tips. It appears that it is something that needs to be done but I want to make sure I do it correctly. So, once the vibrator switch is stuck to the metal housing how do I flatten the tip without damaging it?

if you flatten the tips how will the outer switch work??? they fit into the groove on the inside of the little plastic outer switch. take a really close look at the plastic outer switch before you install.. try securing it in place from the outside of the case so you can align the flex prongs in the grooves.

ok, had a look at aheadphone jack here and I think I know what you mean. the flex you have bought is not attached to the metal part that screws on to the rearcase/frame. if you place the flex with the "mushrooms" facing up and the flex coming from switch is furthest away from you... you can use a fingernail to gently lever the plastic mushroom away from metal fixing while holding on to metal fixing with other hand. if you try to lever the flex end I think you will end up damaging the gold filaments.. It is then simple to replace the new flex in to the metal fixing. the mushrooms didn't break/snap etc but just take it easy.

Yeah I used the tip of a hot soldering iron to smudge them all down. I'm not sure how well I did it or if I was meant to, but it works. Would reccomend super gluing it in first instead of using the double sided tape. The little green (or red) switch has quite a bit of leverage and after my first attempt it pulled itself out before I squished it in hard and smushed the little plastic rivet things.
