Note that following the instructions below will wipe all user data on the device:

Turn the device off by holding power button until power menu appears.

Shut down device.

Once the tablet is shut down, hold the power and volume up button and when the Samsung Logo appears stop holding the power button but continue holding the volume up button.

It will start to boot into the recovery mode.

There may be a green android logo lying down on it's side with an red exclamation mark saying no command.

Just keep waiting and the menu should appear. If not play with the volume and power keys a bit to try unhide the recovery menu.

Use volume up and down to navigate the menu, Power to select an option.

Select Wipe data / Factory Reset and wait for it to complete. Then reboot device from recovery.

Note: You may need to hold the home button as well.

My tablet is a Samsung SM-T 230NU, if that means there is a different answer to the Factory Reset?

No, the procedure is essentially the same on most if not all Samsung devices.

There is one thing to note, the volume button may be inverted on some samsung tablets.

For example if you get the green text download screen with volume up to enter download mode and volume down to reboot phone, that means you have booted into download mode using the volume down button instead of holding volume up.

Wait, I got it to work after all, except I had to push power, volume & home screen button all at once to get it to android screen, but thank you for your help!
