Why does my iPod seem to not retain charge?

I recently attempted to fix the headphone jack on my Ipod, and unfortunately pulled out the connection from the battery to the logic board. I re-attached it but now my ipod doesn't retain charge. And restarts whenever I attach it to a dock.

I was just wondering if it was an issue that anyone has encountered before, and if so how to repair it?

brendan, when you "pulled" it out you mean the flat cable out of the connector? It is possible that the cable /battery got damaged as well as there might be damage to the connector on the logic board. Check on both and make sure the connector is still properly attached to the logic board (look at the solder points closely) also make sure that the clip that attaches the cable to the connector is working properly and that it holds the cable in the connector right. Good Luck and let us know

Just realised that due to my clumsiness, the entire connector has been ripped off the logic board. Is it worth attempting to solder it back or should I just buy a new logic board?

Brendan unless you are very comfortable with soldering very small parts on the logic board and have the right tools, I'd opt for replacing the logic board. It is available here http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Vi... and many other places. Prices will differ between $40 and $90 Good Luck

If you pulled the small plastic piece off the motherboard, you may need to replace the motherboard unless you are able to carefully just set the connector piece back in place and get the battery to lock into place. I would suggest fiddling around with the connection (carefully) and see if you can then get it to charge.
