need more than a 1 tb drive...think this is my model...can I find a 2

I need more than a 1 TB drive... I think this is my model, can I fit a 2 TB drive in it?

I bought the screen plungers & tools, I've been told I need to remove the drive, slave drive sled it to another computer then drag off the data then put the new drive back or at least re-install the old drive. Take to the Apple Store and they can wipe and replace the OS. Or, install new drive and take to Apple Store to put on OS at that point?

I want the old iPhoto pics access and my files can you offer any direction here? I have the serial info to identify the model I thought from memory this is the model.

thanks.! Just saw an article on your company.

Thanks! David Corralez

To double check what you have you can plug in your systems serial number in here: EveryMac - Lookup.

Lets say this is your model, it has a 3.5" SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) HD. So you will need to find a drive that runs at this slower SATA speed. At it turns out this Seagate drive is perfect for your system: FireCuda SSHD specs. Here we can see the line 'SATA Transfer Rates Supported (Gb/s)' with yours listed - 3.0. Make sure any drive you go with lists this otherwise look for another drive.

Here's the IFIXIT guide to put it in: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2309 and 2374 Hard Drive Replacement you will need one more part here besides the drive. The system leverages the internal thermal sensor with a custom cable that only works with a given vendors drive. Here we are using a newer drive that most likely won't work with this cable so we need to get this external sensor to replace the internal one: OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac 2009-2010 Hard Drive Upgrade.

So far we've been talking about the hardware side of things now lets talk about the software side. You don't need to visit an Apple Store or anyone to install your OS. Most likely you have the OS installer on your system and even if you don't you can download it from the App Store.

What you'll do here is setup an OS installer drive hopefully you have an external FireWire drive you can prep up if not a USB thumb drive will work as well (its just very slow). Here is the process on creating an OS installer drive: How to create a bootable macOS Sierra installer drive. As an alternative you can leverage your current HD as well here. You'll likely want to gain access to the files on it and maybe reuse your drive as a backup drive. This will require a FireWire or USB 3.5" drive case to house the drive or you'll need a universal adapter like this one from IFIXIT: Universal Drive Adapter Just make sure you get one with power as the 3.5" drives pull to much to be used directly off the USB port.

The last piece is transferring your stuff over follow this Apple guide: macOS Sierra: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device
