After iFixit battery replacement, machine does not boot

Hello, I purchased the iFixit 15" battery replacement kit to replace the awful OEM battery inside my MacBook Pro. After replacement, the machine does not boot or chime. I tried an SMC reset but it did not respond. It does not respond to a long press of the power button either. The fans spin up after I plug in the charger, but if just the battery is connected, nothing happens when I press the power button.

I plugged in the original battery and that allowed it to boot.

What is wrong with my new battery? Thanks!

Lets not throw dispersions at Apple. The batteries they used are not that bad.

Dan, of course not, I meant that the battery had a bad cell and was dying spontaneously below 50%.

You'll likely need to charge it for a while. What color is your MagSafe charger LED Green or Amber?

Dan, I will try that. I found an 85W adaptor (forgot I was using a 60W) and got it to power on. However, CoconutBattery reports that the battery is not charging at all.

Give it a good 24hrs then you'll want to do a SMC reset, let the system run down the battery until it won't boot and charge it again for a good 24hrs this will calibrate your battery. And yes you do need the 85W charger ;-}

Okay--I left it on the charger for 24 hours. Nothing changed. Percentage didn't rise. The battery status is still 'poor' in CoconutBattery. I can't unplug or use my laptop--it just shuts off. I think I've received a bad battery.

Have you checked to see that all the pins are lining up when you plug in the new battery?

Yes--It can only really go one way.

Sorry, I should rephrase that. Are there any bent pins on the battery connector or the plug itself?
