Repair manuals and information for the Microsoft Surface line of tablets.

I dropped my tablet and now the screen is black.

I dropped my Windows Surface (1st Generation) Tablet on cement floor some time ago and it had streaks of colour going across where it had hit the floor. Everything was still intact and seemed okay for a few days but then the screen got more streaks of colours going across. I haven't used it for awhile and when I turned it on recently, the whole screen was black. I can't see the opening screen nor can I sign in. Is there any way for me to get my documents and photos and things like that off of this tablet?

@martin36 going by your description "streaks of colour going across where it had hit the floor.""got more streaks of colours going across" indicates a broken screen. Take a look at this teardown Microsoft Surface Pro Teardown to see if you want to replace it yourself.

A few ways to do this. If you have buy a bridge usb cable you could hook it up to another pc and transfers it (not a standard usb to usb). I don’t know what time of hard drive is in the surfaces but you could uninstall it then hook it up to another pc. If you have a remoting app like google desktop remote install you could share your hard drive then map it to another pc on the network. Let me know what your thoughts are for what process to proceed on so I can help further.

I dropped my surface. I have a picture but the keyboard won’t work and the touchscreen won’t work. There is a little movement but not good. Is it fixable, and if not, can I download my files?
