Is it advisable to upgrade my hard drive for faster processing to 7k rpm?. I've seen warnings that it may get too hot. Could this damage my Mac?
I have a PowerBookG4 12", 1.33Ghz PowerPC G4, 60Gb UltraATA/100 drive (4200rpm).
1.25GB RAM, running OS 10.5.8

Naw, a 7200 RPM would about double your I/O speed of your laptop resulting in much faster startup speeds and app startups (I sound like a marketer)
Anyway, a disc gets hot under heavy use, much like your laptop. Overheating for a HDD is about 55 degrees C I believe..? and the HDD is far away enough to just cool down by itself. Keep mind mind you "Feel" that it is hot when its about 30 C and the HDD can go up to 55 C.
Interestingly though, they don't make IDE 2.5" HDDs anymore.. (link)
