Why won't the headphone jack or lock button work?

Today, the headphones jack in my iPod started only playing through one headphone. I tried the headphones with my computer, and they worked fine. I switched the headphone jack and lock switch assembly with that of another iPod, and got the same problem, but now the switch didn't lock it either. I figured that it must be the logic board, so I switched that, but it still didn't work. Does anyone know what might be going on here?

@treeofeden make sure that you are using the right headphone jack/hold switch assembly. It has to be for a 5th gen iPod. They are not interchangeable. Since you already swapped the logicboard it is unlikely that both have the identical error. I suggest that you get a known-working assembly from places like this iPod Video 30 GB Headphone Jack & Hold Switch and make sure that you identified your iPod properly. the Video is not a Classic etc.

Both assemblies came out of working 5th gens, I'm certain that they are correct.

that is a very odd situation. You checked to ensure that they are working?

@oldturkey03 they both were functioning perfectly until I tried to use them this one time.

This is truly strange but may point toward a need for another working logic board. There is not much known about the schematics of these boards. Other, of course, than the issue with the audio IC loosing contact. Squeeze the audio IC location and see if that makes a difference while you are playing music.
