Battery drains fast and display getting slightly warm after a drop!

Hi !

My iPhone 6 fell down from my bed (says the wife) and the next morning onwards, I started getting terrible battery life. It would only last for 4 hrs with 100% charged to 0. I also noticed slightly warm display. especially the top part. Touch ID stopped working too.

I replaced the battery myself but still, I'm getting the same issues.

Shall I take out the logic board and check for any loose connections/shorts ?

By the way, the battery drains even when the display is off (like when the phone is locked).

The drop may have damaged the front camera flex, causing it to draw excess current. This would explain the heat you feel. The Home button flex may also have been damaged.

I would open up the phone and inspect the connections. I would also do a thorough visual inspection of the flexes to see if there are any tiny tears or other damage.

To properly troubleshoot, I would disconnect the front camera flex and see if that solves the problem. If not, then continue to disconnect flexes one at a time until you isolate the problem. Always disconnect the battery before each new iteration.

Ok, I disconnected everything from the logic board and checked the board and the cables. I couldn't find any damage to the board or the cables.

Then, I connected everything and the battery was draining fast.

Next, I disconnected the rear camera and home button cables (didn't fasten the screws on the shield by the way) and still, the battery is draining fast.

Wondering what to do as I'm sure Apple wouldn't do any repair in cheap !

If you remove the passcode requirement on your phone and install 3uTools (www.3u.com), you will be able to disconnect your screen and see if the battery is draining quickly via 3uTools. That way you can eliminate the screen as a potential problem or not.

BTW, while you use 3uTools, you can also check the condition of the battery. It should be above 75% of it's design capacity. Anything less than 70% could be the source of your problem.

Battery life is showing as 97%.

By the way, how do I turn off the screen ?

Just looking back through your comments, have you tried disconnecting the Front Camera flex and testing the battery life? That's the likely suspect.
