Bad Clock Capacitor, stops at clock screen

My xbox starts up, but skips the menus and goes straight to the clock set up. i cant do anything once i reach that point, and the controller does nothing (i've tried all ports). everthing freezes except for background. i've guessed the capacitor is bad but i researched and some dont work with out the capacitor. what do i do and how?

When the clock capacitor fails on logic boards v1.1-1.5 they leak a corrosive acid that will do some damage if neglected. You will need to do some research to get your best guess on what version logic board you have. v1.6 does not have this issue when the capacitor fails.

Open up your Xbox and take a look around for that capacitor. Found it? Now Remove it! (You can just wiggle it back and forth to break it free) If it’s leaking clean up that acid ASAP as best you can. Alcohol and cotton will do and be careful it will burn your skin. Hopefully there isn’t any permanent damage to the board and it just needed a cleaning to get it going again.

Put the Xbox back together and see if it will let you get past the clock setup. If not; then actually replacing the capacitor may be required.

As for the controller not working; that makes me think there is some acid damage to the logic board. Your Xbox should function as normal without the capacitor; aside from resting the clock when Power is lost. I would start with the capacitor and any clean up then go from there. Eliminate one problem at a time.
