How do I literally cut off WiFi?

Because of some mischievous behavior, I'd like to literally disable the WiFi on my teenager's iPod. I realize there are parental controls, but these can be overcome, so I'm hoping I can open the iPod and do something to make the WiFi electronics not work, preferably in a way that sometime in the future I can re-connect it (although that's not a necessity).

Is there a way to take the wifi chip out, cut a wire, something so wifi doesn't work at all?

Safe Eyes is a great third party program that you can use to filter content. IMO it is better than the standard parental controls that come on most devices.

KCSamerica, sounds like you are taking some radical steps here :) I would think that disconnecting the WiFi cable would disable that function. Since you did not tell us which iPod you have I guess you should start here iPod Touch select your ipod and then find the WiFi cable or antenna in the repair manual. Hope that this will work for you....Ever tried grounding the teenager ;) good luck

Thanks Old Turkey! :) Yes, grounding helps to some extent, but wanting her to have her music (life needs background music) and not access to mischievous behavior with the WiFi presents the challenge.

She has a 2nd generation iPod Touch. In the steps to replace the logic board, it talks of the WiFi ribbon cable. But not having opened the actual device yet, I'm not sure if I know which cable it is... aside from figuring out which cable, will disconnecting the cable stop WiFi or just lessen its strength?

Thanks again for your help!

KCSamerica I would try to disconnect the cable first. I am certain that this will make the WiFi pretty much useless to a good extent and you are not ruining the device since you can re-connect at a later time. BTW I have one of those too, Teenager, so I know how tough it is :) Hang in there, most of them grow up doing perfectly okay in life

This seems a bit drastic... I would just ground her from it personally, for say... a month then see how she is. That way you don't potentially destroy $200 worth of iPod Touch and &!*&, you could take it over and use it.

Old Turkey... do you know which cable it is? The pictures show different cables and doesn't really specify which is the WiFi cable. I still haven't opened it up and maybe it'll be more obvious once I do, but I'm nervous about doing this until I feel confident I know what I'm doing and where.

Thanks for your parental advice Skippy, but drastic times calls for drastic measures.

KCSamerica there is a picture right here http://www.sourcingmap.com/larger_image.... that shows you the cable. Hope that will help you once you have the iPod apart. Good Luck

I would just change your wireless router access code or password, If you do not have one I would seriously encourage you to to set one. Why change or modify hardware when all you need to do is change a simple password. I have threatened my daughter with the same consequence.
