How to fix grey screen after restarting MacBook Pro?

I restarted my MacBook Pro to find, after the start up apple logo, that I'm prompted with the warning pop up that my start up disk is full. I'm unable to click "Ok" and it eventually takes me to a blank grey screen where I can only see the cursor. Have tried restarting it multiple times.
