Repair guides and support for phones manufactured by Oppo Electronics Corp.

Power problem due to a tiny crack on motherboard

I recently changed LCD screens on my OPPO phone and the motherboard cracked at the side because it's a very thin strip of plastic and it's easy to crack when you remove it out.

Now, because of the crack, the power doesn't travel well from the battery to the north side of the motherboard and the phone is switched off.

However if I apply pressure on the crack, the phone lights up and works really well. But if I let go it switches off again.

It sounds like a really silly thing, is there any way I can repair this? Cause if I get the power to travel through the tiny crack, the phone works as good as new.

I would hate to throw away a phone that I know can work really well just because of a silly crack.

Any ideas?

i have a similar issue with my lg optimus dynamic.

it got dropped on the ground & lost for a few days. it wasn't in a wet environment.

after that it wouldn't turn on fully unless it's on a charger, the lg screen would flash on & off.

it has to be a power hardware issue.

i have no idea how it would get damaged, it wasn't wet & it doesn't have any visible damage.

i took it apart & the front of the motherboard had a TINY scratch/crease on it, even though it doesn't have any other evidence of outside physical trauma.

Nick, You did not state which model of Oppo phone you have. Posted a couple ifixit guides below that show how to replace damaged mother board(guides state easy to moderate in R&R) hopefully will work for you if not try a search using your (make, model#,disassembly). Also do a search using your model # for a replacement board to see if cost effective. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

The model is irrelevant because I am not interested in replacing the motherboard.

I am very near fixing it myself with a bit of glue

@nkomp18, Nick, That is good you want to try and repair old board, crack boards and traces can be a difficult repair. I was just giving you another option, say by chance you found a good board for $25.00 and it was going to cost the same for materials or more to repair, maybe it may worth considering another board. Just an option, Good luck with your OPPO.

Hi Nick

As Christian said it will be very very hard if it is more than a top and bottom layer and how much money do you want to spend finding out?

But Nice! I like these types of repair, so fulfilling when you get it done

Now lets assume it is a part of the board that only has a top, or and bottom tracers

You can get "Wire glue" eBay.

You will need a magnifying glass

and a steady hand

and get creative it can be done if the phone is worth it to you

@nkomp18 Depending on the number of layers and traces, you can attempt to do board level repair. This would be difficult and require micro soldering. Unfortunately, boards with more than a bottom and top layer would prove extremely difficult to repair(if not impossible). If you can source a motherboard, you could swap the boards and use a backup of your data. Unfortunately cracks in the motherboard are very difficult to fix.

Just to clarify, that part of the motherboard contains no microchips or pins and definitely there are no top or bottom layers or anything like that. It's just a thin plastic strip. If you apply a bit of pressure with your finger, the phone works fine. I even think maybe a bit of tape could do it... it's so frustrating having the phone nearly in working condition over a tiny crack.

@nkomp18 maybe hot glue could do the trick then?

Yes, I tried to melt the plastic with a needle and it improved a lot. It almost works, but it still switches off by itself. It's NEARLY there... might have to try enforcing it a bit more and the phone will be usable again
