Iphoto states insufficient disk space

I installed a new hard drive and Snow Leopard software. Then I restored from Time Machine. Now when I try to add a picture or series of pictures to Iphoto it says cannot import because there is not enough free space on the volume containing Iphoto Library.

The problem is the pictures are about 180mb and there is 295+ gb on the drive.

Does anyone have an idea what is the problem and how to fix it?

Hopefully I won't have to wipe the drive and start again.

How large is the new hard drive and how much free space does it have? To find out, click one the hard drive once and go under File to get info.

Rebuild the

iPhoto Library

  1. Quit iPhoto, if it’s open.
  2. Hold down the Command and Option keys through launch as you click the iPhoto icon.
  3. The dialog box appears: Release the keys.
  4. Check “Repair the iPhoto Library Database, Rebuild Photo Library” “Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions”
  5. Click Rebuild.

I have had the same problem and have done the "repair the IPhoto library" many times. I can import one photo at a time, but that is really not an option. Any suggestions?

I will try this again. I wrote but seems my internet connection is a problem tonight. The drive is 320GB with 295+ GB left on it. However, I did not realize that I was missing some updates so after about 2 hours downloading I was able to get the whole system with the latest updates. After that the Iphoto seemed to work fine. I do appreciate your help and will keep the suggestions on file for future reference and to help someone else with a similar problem. Thanks again.

Thanks machead3 I tried it several times but it still give the same insufficient disk space. I restarted the computer but that didn't seem to help. I am considering deleting the file and copying the file I have on my other computer. It contains all the same photos plus the ones I was trying to import. I have also considered reinstalling just the Iphoto. I am hoping to avoid wiping the drive and starting over again.

Does these ideas make sense? or are there additional suggestion for the fix. Thank-you

PS I don't have regular internet access so please pardon the delay in response.
