a1502 MacBook Pro - Fan connector broken - replacement tips?! Thanks

Hi there, i have been asked to repair MacBook pro, the issue that the macbook faces is that it has a broken fan fpc connector on the logicboard, it is missing a pin as it seems. I tested the fan in annother unit to ensure it was okay and sure enough it was. I was wondering if anyone either knew how big a job it was to repair one of these, what kind of tools I would need and where to source the parts from in the UK, thank you hugely in advance - Tom

Update (05/20/2017)

Thank you all very much for your answers I have uploaded 4 photos of the issue to clarify it slightly. All the best - Tom

Add some pics of the connector

Are the pads missing, or is the connector just popped off?

I agree here with Cameron we really need some pics on how badly damaged the logic board is as well as the state of the connector if it can be reused.

Pictures added, thank you!

Need a hot air station, soldering iron and consumables (good flux, good solder, etc). Grab a schematic and board view for your particular board to see exactly what pad is missing. You can then run a wire to where it needs to go (although if it has been ripped off for example, it is likely a nc pad which has been pulled since they are weaker)

You can't get these new in the UK, this is the connector you need http://www.ebay.com/itm/DDK-FUJIKURA-FLE...

You can remove this from a donor board by heating the other side of the board (to avoid melting it), if you have a donor board available. I have about 8 donor boards for the 2013-2015 13" boards, let me know if you need the connector and I'll pull one for you, if any are good.

Hi again Reece, thanks for your once again brilliant answer my only query is as my belief is it is just the connector, so in my ignorance I don't really understand the use of a schematic. I would also be interested in purchacing one of the connectors from one of your donor boards, how much would I be looking at paying? Thanks!

@t0mmib0i - Tom, Reece was expecting you had lifted the connector off the board peeling back and/or snapping the copper traces in the process. Luckily, your pics tell us a different story!

Yes, you'll still need the hot air rework station and desoldering wick to remove the old connector from the board and a good micro-soldering iron. This is not easy without damaging the logic board! Given the cost of the needed tools if you don't have access to them it might be wise to find someone with the tools and micro-soldering skills to do this repair.

@t0mmib0i I'll check the boards when I am back on Monday and let you know. Feel free to email me in the meantime, so I can email you to let you know on Monday (email is on my profile).

If your model is the 2015 A1502, the fan doesn't spin unless it gets hot. As @danj says, the traces are fine and you will need to purchase the equipment to do this. Retina boards absorb heat very well, so you will need to put at minimum £100+ (preferably more, I use a Weller WTHA 1 which cost £900ish) on a hot air station, cheap eBay ones won't do.
