Fan running 100% (ish) all the time from boot up

Hi

I have an issue with my iMac. The fans kick in from boot up (even before the log on screen sometimes) and run at what sounds like 100%.

Macs fan control shows CPU fan at 3900 and ODD at 3500.

The only temp that looks strange is the LCD proximity one - 49-55C.

Any idea what the issue is? The apple hardware test reported no issues.

I have done a fresh install of OSX.

Did you change the hard drive?

no, nothing has been altered from the day it was purchased from Apple.

Never even opened the imac up (I say opened but mean pop the front off but you get what I mean!)

If you are hearing fans speed up right away it is definitely that LCD temperature sensor cable. If you have the tools, I would pull up a repair guide and see if you can't adjust that cable. A cheap and easy possible solution would be to replace it.

Cheers, I will try that - need to get a tool to pop the screen off and then see what happens.

Annoyingly, I have just rebooted the machine and now fans are all behaving. Give them 10 minutes and I expect they will kick off again! LCD now at 74c but all 3 fans at around 1000RPM

You really need to back this statement up: "it is definitely that LCD temperature sensor cable". Just why do you think this? A bad hard drive sensor cable would cause the same issue.

If fans startup right away, it is typically the LCD temperature sensor at fault. If fans kick in after the Apple logo appears, then it's usually a bad hard drive sensor....just following the boot process.
