What part of the home button is paired to the logic board?
Is it possible to transfer a part of the hardware of the original button to a new home button to preserve the Touch ID?

The chip that stores data and is paired with the CPU is "printed" on the back of the home button itself.
It is not on the flat cable like it used to be for the iPhone 5s.
It is literally impossible to remove and transfer it without destroying it in the process.

Is it possible to replace the flat cable? If so, can you point me to a guide?
That's actually got me curious also. So lemme get this straight. You could remove the chip on the cable, and transfer the Touch ID, to a different button?
@theimedic for the 5S, you can transfer the chip.
For the iPhone 6 and newer, the chip is embedded on the back of the home button in such a way that you cannot transfer it without breaking it. The best you could do is rewire the home button in case the cable is broken. It is a lot of work and rarely worth the effort. But it has been done.
As for the whole flat home button flat cable, you can buy an after market one or transfer one from a donor phone. In Either case, Touch ID function will not work for iPhones 5S and newer. And for the iPhone 7/7+, nor Touch ID function nor home button function. Once it goes bad or is replaced, that button for the 7/7+ becomes completely unresponsive to any kind of input and does not serve any purpose except plug a hole in the screen.

So how does apple fix it if you ship it to them?
My home button was working fine last night but when I woke up, 1) I had the dead battery sign on my screen which was strange because it was plugged in. 2) Then it wouldn’t charge and the only way I could get rid of the dead battery sign was to open the phone and unplug the battery. I had tried everything first and then I plugged it in and it was 42% charged! 3) Got done there and I noticed it had updated to 12.1.2 even though auto updated was off! It’s been available but I was waiting until I read more about it. I’m ready to throw it out the window and probably would’ve if I didn’t owe $ on it. The only thing the home button works for is the camera and that I don’t understand? How can only one app work on it?
Well if anyone can help me on any of this I’d I’d really appreciate the help!!
The guy you sent it to lived in Florida. You sent the logic board clean off iCloud, tested and restored, probably updated too, it went in but it didn't come out. Any clue who this could be? I've never met the guy, only seen him on YouTube. Guess. Guess?? Ding, Ding? Florida, Alligators, Golf!!!Beware!!

Rany is right. The answer is no. But you can go to Apple for a new screen which will come with a new home button. They withold access to their fingerprint sensor/touch ID pairing machine, but they are able to pair the new button to the device in house at some Apple Stores.

I had to buy a new screen for my iPhone 5se and after putting the front cameras and home button on the original screen on the new screen. I had hoped that the finger print I'd would still work but no luck. Is their any reason why its hasn't unless I damaged it (but it's still working as a home button)

Did you restart the iPhone after reconnecting the home button?
If yes, then the home button cable may need reseating, or you did indeed damage the flat cable.
if you use a playing card and a little rubbing alcohol you can remove the original home button without damaging it, then you can transfer it to the replacement screen.

The home button is paired with the logic board, the screen doesn’t effect the home button except for its position.
