How to fix a broken plastic case around a Lenovo Ideapad?

Hey guys/girls,

I'm a new tech and I dropped my Lenovo IdeaPad 510 on concrete, it was in a padded computer case. As a result, a significant piece of the plastic casing has broken off and is now exposing the antenna that connects up into the screen. The plastic around the keyboard is also bent.

The computer overall seems to still work, so maybe its just a cosmetic thing, but I'd like to replace the plastic casing.

My question is... Can I get a new case and would it be worth trying to repair it or send it off to Lenovo?

Please let know your thoughts?

Hi @trucksaj,

What is the exact model number of your IdeaPad?

There are a lot of Lenovo IdeaPad models with 510 in the model number e.g. IdeaPad U510, Y510 Z510, 510S-14ISK 510-15ISK etc.

They do not all share the same parts as far as the upper case (area around keyboard, if this is what you mean) and LCD cover is concerned.

You can download the service and hardware manual for your exact model by searching online for Lenovo IdeaPad (your exact model number) service manual.

Once you have it you'll find in it, an exploded view of all the parts. You will need to find the part numbers, which are also included in the manual, for the LCD cover and the Upper case.

Search online, using the part number only to find suppliers of the parts. Obviously select the one that suits you best.

The manual also describes the necessary pre-requisites and then the procedure to remove the part that you want to replace.

I dropped my Lenovo right on the charge port while it was plugged in. Did some serious damage to the charge port as well as both hinges. I looked on ebay and a replacement shell was rather expensive. I was able to fix it with a lot of JB Weld, some sandpaper, and a dremel tool.
