Dual Hard drive is recognized by disk utility but can't be used.

I installed the 480gb SSD OCZ Toshiba TR150 as a dual hard drive in the optical drive. Everything worked fine in terms of opening the computer and installation. The hard drive does not show it is mounted on the desktop nor.

I opened disk utility and tried to erase the drive:

Disk Erase failed with the error:

Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.

Then, I tried to partition the drive with 2 partitions:

Partition failed with the error:

Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.

It still does not open as a useable drive.

Sadly some of the MacBook Pro's can't support SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drives in the optical bay. This is due to a design failure within the systems logic board. Here is a good write up on this: OWC Data Doubler remember it makes no difference who's carrier you use as the issue is within the MacBook Pro's logic. Jump down to the section under MacBookPro8,1

You'll need to find an older fixed speed SATA II SSD drive to use within the optical carrier. And I don't recommend swapping the drives around either in case your system has a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) HD. The reason here is a bit different as HD port has crash guard protection enabled within the logic boards HD SATA port interface so if you move the drive over you risk killing your drive is you bounce the system while the drive is running. Double dammed!

I might add, auto setting drives like: Samsung 850 EVO which is a great drive wont work as the drives logic gets confused!

You need to get a drive which only works at one SATA speed only, SATA II here.
