Touch ID Cable ONLY replacement?

While opening my iPhone 6 for a screen replacement, the cable for the touchID sensor was slightly sliced, and now my home button of course is inoperable. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace ONLY the cable, or do I need to replace the entire home button, and lose the functionality of TouchID?

Thanks very much in advance.

It is possible when you have micro soldering skill, I know that the computer room (Leon Stacey) in England does fix home button cable, don't know what they charge for such repair.

This is incorrect. No matter your micro soldering skill level, you cannot replace the cable without losing touch ID. Its impossible without the software that Apple uses to program them.

Yes you CAN do that. The only problem is that such skills are expensive and likely not worth it in locations where labor costs are already high.

I'll take bets on that one.

I have the tools and skills. Walk me through how to do it.

You would not believe the fine work some technicians can offer. Sometimes they even run wires beneath the AX CPU to fix pulled pads or broken internal traces.

さんによる

That sounds amazing but I agree, anything can be done with a perfect alchemy of skills, tools and time to do it.

You can get it fixed by apple and you will still have touch ID. If you replace it you WILL lose the function of touch ID. You can try to solder it together. Good luck

Curious how this process is handled.

If I go with one that does not work can they reprogram it ? And they repair the broken one ? How much is that ?

This is how it's done.

These are from Chinese technicians, I'm not sure if anyone in the Western Hemisphere offer this, at least for reasonable costs.

@joshw Maybe you try this on an iPhone 6 home button, the cable end is just auxiliary components without any smart chips. Microsoldering the cable should do.

@tomchai You didn't tell me I'd need to buy an electron microscope!

さんによる

This is just an optical microscope.

Although to be fair, this thing is not intended for DIYers, only professionals would invest in these equipment and training.

This video doesn't show a repair of a sliced Touch ID flex though, Leon replaced the Home Button connector.

See my comment above.

Once the original button is torn, there is no fixing the actual touch ID portion of your home button. You can of course reply able to get the home button feature to work. The part is cheap and easy to install. No Touch ID though going forward.

Anyone who says it can’t be repaired is not informed. It can be repaired via micro soldering and connecting a cable from another Touch ID. Or the chip can be swapped to another unit. But that Touch ID chip is married to the cpu.
