Asus laptop won't power down completely...

Computer won't power down completely...

When I tell the computer to shut down, it acts normally to the point of the power button turning off for a split-second, but then the power light turns back on and the HDD and Wifi activity lights flicker/flash (rhythmically, as if in a loop) and nothing comes up on screen, and continues indefinitely until i hold the power button down to force it to turn off.

Just performed a fresh install (actually two, I was thinking this problem could be related to booting from a "BIOS" based install rather than a UEFI compliant one, so I tried different install media that supports UEFI the second time... obiously didn't help because I'm still having the same issue).

Very strange issue in, tried many "solutions" found on google:

1. Turned off "fast shutodown"

2. Turned off hibernation

3. Updated BIOS

4. Cleared CMOS

5. updated ACPI drivers (as well as I could from asus' website)

6. Found some info that people were having with a similar issue pointing to some Intel Management Engine Interface driver, but since the laptop has an AMD APU and chipset, this seemed a dead end.... Nevertheless, I updated the APU drivers.

Any help would be MORE than appreciated!

Hi,

Does it do this in 'safe mode'?

Here is a link to all the latest Asus Win 10 (if this is what you have) drivers.

Try the ATK package. It might also be worthwhile to unistall the ATK package drivers and the Smart Gesture drivers then re-install the updated ATK package 1st before installing the updated Smart gesture drivers. Asus seem to be very specific about this, but I cannot find out exactly why except that it causes problems with Smart Gesture if you don't

I just checked twice, and the computer still exhibits the same behavior in safe mode...

Thank you for the link to those drivers... I've gotten everything up to date, but I'm still experiencing this issue :(

Hi,

Have you checked in BIOS to see if there are any APM options that may be causing this?

I have various APM options in my Asus desktop motherboard that allow auto power on under certain conditions. Of course I don't know if it is the same for a laptop.

Have you checked in Event Viewer to see if there are any clues as to what is happening?

Just some thoughts.

Their are no APM options, and no relevant events present in Event Viewer :( I had to return this computer to the customer, so I guess this will remain a mystery for eternity.

Did you ever find a solution?
