Printer claims there was no paper which is a lie

Canon Pixma MG5650: Printer fails to pull in paper and makes loud noises while trying. Error code: 1003 No paper.

However, I tried paper in different thicknesses, in different amounts, tried to push, to adjust, whatever.

Assuming some mechanical part is broken, how can I detect this myself and how could I possibly repair it? Canon's support in this, of course, is useless.

Ah btw, this problem just occurred all of a sudden, after having printed 15 out of 30 pages (duplex).

Same problem but on MG3650. It is a solid box. How do I get at those pesky rollers?

I had a similar issue with my MG5750

Happy to say that after unscrewing the paper tray and taking it out I dabbed cotton swabs in nail varnish solution and cleaned the insides/rollers, then blow dryed - it worked thanks!

Sounds like the pinch rollers are dirty with paper dust so they can't grab the paper. Using cotton swabs (Q-Tip's) and isopropyl alcohol to wash them down. See if that fixes things you may need to replace them if they are dried out.

You also will need to use some can'ed air to blow away the junk around the sensors as well.

I cleaned the pinch rollers and I blew away some (invisible) dust, but that didn't seem to be the problem. The printer would still not grab the paper.

However, when I was bored, I repeated this procedure again, four or five times, assembling, disassembling - and suddenly it worked again!

Only the gods know what happened here.

I was using really slick nice paper and my house was dirty from a windstorm, the canned air did the trick, thanks so much.

Pixma no paper alert with paper in the printer, not picking up paper. Cleaned the rollers, paper tray etc. No joy. Then noticed a small white plastic curved plate - 15mm*5mm - with a spring at the rear of it, which was definitely to be in the paper path. Pushed this back into the slot behind it, pushed hard, and it clicked back into place. Do not know how this became dislodged, nor function, but that was the problem.

Thank you, Martin Kennedy!! I too tried to clean the rollers with alcohol with only minimal success. Then I noticed that the paper was getting jammed where there was this little white plastic piece attached to a spring. I considered pushing it back; however, not knowing its purpose, I was hesitant to do so. Luckily, I came across your comment and decided to push it back. Voila!!! My paper is now feeding again!

Can anyone advise where I can find this small plastic piece please. The paper is travelling through the printer easily but is not printing or copying and the error message informs me that the printer is out of paper!

Pushed small white plastic curved plate back as described, and I can feed paper once again. Thank you for the tip!

@hereford you can access the small white plastic piece by turning printer on it's side, and is located at rear of the paper tray underneath the printer,, but if paper is travelling through the printer, this is unlikely to be the problem.
